Effect of cortisol and age upon the dermal chemical response to dilantin.

چکیده
Daily administration of sodium biphenyl hydantionate (Dilantin) to rats has been shown to increase markedly the dermal concentration of insoluble collagen and non-collagenous protein (1) as well as to decrease the concentration of both tissue water and fat (2). These effects were produced by ten or more daily doses of 100 mg of drug per kg body weight (3) and were a result of the specific structure of Dilantin, rather than a resultant of hydantoin structure in general (4). This paper describes the inhibition, by age and by cortisol injection of the dermal chemical changes associated with Dilantin administration.

ABSTRACT In order to evaluate time course of changes in serum concentration of thyroid hormones, cortisol and ACTH in patients exposed to chemical weapons containing sulfur mustard, we measured serum concentrations of hormones on the first, third and fifth week following injury in 13 soldiers and compared them to the results obtained from 34 control men. Free T4 and T3 indices were decrease...

Objective(s): In the present study the effect of stress on monkeys that had learned to retrieve food from a five-chamber receptacle, as well as the relationship between their behavior and the serum cortisol and epinephrine levels and relative size of the amygdala was evaluated. Materials and Methods: Six male rhesus monkeys were individually given access to the food reward orderly. They could e...
متن کاملEffect of epinephrine and cortisol on fasting-induced ghrelin secretion in male rats fed different levels of their energy requirement
Introduction: ghrelin is a potent orexigenic agent in rodents and humans. Some studies have shown that ghrelin participates in the adaptive response to weight loss and plasma concentration of ghrelin rises with dieting. On the other hand, weight loss and fasting is accompanied by increased levels of epinephrine and cortisol. In this study, we investigated the effects of epinephrine and corti...
متن کاملThe Resorption of Sodium Dilantin-produced Dermial
Dilantin has long been known to result in hyperplasia of the gingiva (1) and to increase the tensile strength of rat skin (2). We have shown that daily intraperitoneal injections of 25 mg of Dilantin resulted in marked increases in the insoluble collagen, hexosamine, and insoluble noncollagenous protein (scleroprotein) content of rat skin (3). Four daily doses of the drug were sufficient to sig...
